Explorers is where the real adventure begins! Open to boys and girls aged 14 to 18, this is your chance to take Scouting to the next level. Whether you’re moving up from Scouts or diving in for the first time, Explorers is all about pushing boundaries, gaining independence, and taking on epic challenges. If you’re ready to discover new horizons and test your limits, this is the place for you!
About Explorers
Explorers are the fourth section in the Scouting family, easily spotted in their smart beige uniforms. Explorer Scout Units (their groups) meet in a variety of places—Scout huts, schools, community centers, or even wild outdoor locations! Together, you’ll plan and embark on daring expeditions, develop life skills, and work as a team to tackle some of the biggest challenges you’ve ever faced.
Weekly Adventures
Explorer meetings are filled with high-octane activities and unforgettable experiences. Every week, you can expect to:
- Master advanced survival techniques like navigation, wilderness cooking, and first aid
- Take on epic hikes, long-distance expeditions, and adventure races
- Challenge yourself with outdoor activities like mountain biking, abseiling, and sailing
- Learn practical skills like leadership, problem-solving, and teamwork

Epic Camps and Expeditions
In Explorers, camping goes to a whole new level! You’ll experience everything from weekend survival camps in the wild to multi-week expeditions in rugged, remote landscapes. Whether you’re trekking through the mountains, canoeing down rapids, or navigating unfamiliar terrain, every trip will test your skills and build your confidence. Imagine traveling abroad for international Jamborees, or even planning your own expedition with friends!
Achievements and Badges
As an Explorer, you can earn a range of awards that showcase your skills and achievements. You’ll start with the Membership Award, and from there, the adventure begins!
Explore the Badges
- Activity Badges: Go deeper into skills like Survival, First Aid, Climbing, Paragliding, Aviation, Photography, and so much more! Some badges are earned in Unit activities, while others challenge you to develop your skills outside of meetings.
- Staged Activity Badges: Continue earning badges in stages, like for nights spent away or completing advanced water activities, giving you plenty of goals to strive for as you push your limits.
- Partnership Awards: Work with other sections or organizations to achieve these badges, focusing on collaboration, service, and teamwork.
- Challenge Awards: Face high-level challenges like completing expeditions, leading group projects, or undertaking personal development challenges to earn these prestigious awards.
The Ultimate Achievement
The Queen’s Scout Award is the highest honor an Explorer can achieve. To earn it, you’ll complete a series of difficult challenges that test your leadership, outdoor skills, and community spirit. You’ll plan and execute major expeditions, contribute to service projects, and lead others through difficult situations. Achieving this award is a symbol of dedication, resilience, and adventure!
