This summer, the 26th Fife Scout Group embarked on an incredible week-long adventure to the heart of the Swiss Alps, spending their time at the world-famous Kandersteg International Scout Centre (KISC). Scouts and Explorers from across the globe came together, sharing a journey filled with excitement, exploration, and the true spirit of international friendship.
Upon arrival in Kandersteg, the group was greeted by breathtaking scenery—snow-capped peaks and lush valleys setting the perfect stage for their week. KISC, nestled in the Alps, has been a hub for scouts since 1923, offering a unique place where scouts from around the world can meet and share experiences. The 26th Fife Scouts quickly settled in, setting up camp and exploring the vast grounds, where they immediately began meeting fellow scouts from as far as Japan, Canada, and New Zealand.
One of the highlights of their week was a memorable excursion to Interlaken, a beautiful Swiss town known for its stunning scenery between two lakes, Thun and Brienz. The group enjoyed a peaceful stroll around the town, learning about Swiss culture and sampling local cuisine. The stunning alpine backdrop, with towering mountains and pristine lakes, made for an unforgettable day, providing plenty of opportunities for photographs and memories.

The adventure continued with a thrilling cable car ride up into the mountains surrounding Kandersteg. The panoramic views were spectacular, offering the scouts a bird’s-eye view of the valleys below. For some, the ride was a challenge, but the encouragement of friends helped them conquer any fears. Once at the summit, the excitement only grew with the Rodelbahn, an exhilarating alpine toboggan run. The scouts raced down the track, laughing and cheering, many returning for multiple rides. The sense of freedom and fun was a highlight for everyone.

The group also embarked on a challenging mountain hike, trekking through pine forests, crossing crystal-clear streams, and tackling steep trails leading to breathtaking viewpoints. The hike tested their endurance, but the reward at the top—a stunning view of the Alps—made every step worthwhile. They took a well-earned break at a mountain hut, enjoying their packed lunches while basking in the serene beauty of the mountains.

One of the most meaningful aspects of the week was the opportunity to meet scouts from around the world. Kandersteg is a truly international hub, bringing together scouts from dozens of countries. The 26th Fife Scouts joined in international campfire nights, cultural exchanges, and shared meals with their new friends. They experienced scout traditions from different nations, practiced speaking foreign languages, and formed bonds that will last a lifetime. It was a powerful reminder that scouting is a global movement, uniting young people from all walks of life.
A particularly special moment was participating in the 1st of August parade, celebrating Swiss National Day. The scouts proudly marched through Kandersteg, waving flags and singing songs alongside their international counterparts. The parade ended with a traditional Swiss celebration, complete with fireworks and festivities that lit up the alpine sky. It was an unforgettable experience that underscored the unity of the scouting movement.

As their time in Kandersteg drew to a close, the scouts reflected on an extraordinary week. They had pushed themselves to new heights—literally and figuratively—by hiking mountains, riding cable cars, and diving into thrilling adventures. They had forged lasting friendships with scouts from all corners of the globe.
Though leaving Kandersteg was bittersweet, they returned home with a deep sense of pride and accomplishment, along with the knowledge that they are part of a global scouting family. The 26th Fife Scout Group’s trip was more than an adventure—it was a life-changing experience, embodying the true spirit of scouting and international fellowship. With memories that will last a lifetime, the week in Kandersteg will forever be a cherished chapter in their scouting journey.
